Assemble by the gatehouse on the old Monmow River bridge in Monmouth at 10.00 hours. OL14 Grid Reference 505125

Suggested parking in Monmouth at the Cattle Market Car Park opposite Waitrose (£4.00) OL14 Grid Reference SO 506124) - for car share users and if driving direct.

Starting at gatehouse on the old Monmow River bridge we cross Chippenham fields to walk under the A40 and pick the Wye Valley way on the eastern bank of the River Wye stopping for morning tea on the way. Using this undulating path we eventually emerge on the verge adjacent to the Tintern Road for short while. Before finding the Offa's Dyke Path to climb the hill to Kymin Tower. The start of the climb in lower Redbrook is a gentle slope on a gravel track which turns into a steeper tarmac road (for about 700 Metres). Leaving the tarmac behind the slope of the track becomes gentler and the ridge opens up the views. We then walk on the edge of beach woodland to the Naval Temple where we stop to admire it. Before going a little further to the view point for a leisurely lunch to allow you to explore Kymin Tower. If you are National trust member do not forget your card, it is worth a short visit. After lunch we descend through the beech woodland to Monmouth when there will be time to explore the historic town.

Please note that the Wye Valley Way is sometimes close to the river's edge and do take care when crossing the roads.
