The Ramblers are piloting a new method of walk registration. Our group have decided to participate and I am undertaking the necessary work. I now have a walker registration app on my smartphone. The idea is that the walk registration process simply involves me, as a leader or participant, scanning your membership cards with the app at the start of, or during the walk. Siimple. All the necessary data is captured and the rigmarole of deciphering handwritten sheets and passing them to the membership secretary for forwarding to head office is avoided.
From hereon in, as membership cards are issued or reissued, they will contain a QR code. Over time everyone’s card will be capable to be scanned.
This phase of the pilot will take place until the end of October. For any walk I lead or participate in during this time I plan to use this app. So please do bring your membership cards with you when you come on a walk and help me find out whether the use of this new technology will fly.
It is not compulsory to take part and you are at liberty to refuse to have your card scanned or your details taken in this manner. The current paper method of registration will continue to be used and we do expect you to complete this paperwork as normal.
